UMass changes coaching staff.

Coach Morris and the rest of the UMass football staff have been fired.

Matty V, has the story.

Jeff Thomas of Masslive also covers the story.

The UMass Daily Collegian also has an article on the firing.

There are more story links out there, but the three above have the most detail.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried not to use the blog to advance any personal agenda. However, in this case, I believe McCutcheon did the right thing for the program. UMass has bet the farm on the move to FBS and I believe we need a coach with FBS experience to make the move.

With a reported number of scholarships above the FCS 63 level, UMass was not one of the top teams in the CAA. As McCutcheon's statement indicated, there was no detectable momentum towards a 2012 schedule that included four BCS league teams and a full MAC schedule.

I am sorry for the staff that was let go and hope people remember the work they put in. Football is a hard game.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It will be interesting to see who will be considered for the position. Stay tuned.

This is so wrong, the entire staff! Are you kidding me!

Bring back Brown or Whipple. Good bets, either. How about Mike Leach, not that he'd come up to New England....

Can't rely on transfers anymore. we're FBS now. One year sit out applies.

Brown or Whipple would be great choices.

Brown is not coming back. He didn't leave on great terms when he left for maryland. Plus if brown comes back so does morris, picucci and they are finished here.

Time to move forward That's all I have to say about that......

The AD should be held accountable for the bonehead move with the 5 year deal he gave Morris. Morris was held accountable for a sub par record. The AD's move for having to replace Morris move is costing us over $600k.
I don't want him too involved with hiring the new coach.

It was the right move by umass. We just kept getting worse and heading to fbs kevin morris wasn't the right fit to lead us. Morris gave an all out effort to make this work, it just didn't happen. My money is on whipple returning to umass.

I can't see whipple coming back. I will be interested to see how the new coach will spark fan support. You can't say morris didn't try to do that he just had no success.

1 year too late. Best decision

Good thing UMass never relied on transfers. Of course those that transferred would now be coming to UMass.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who have been screaming for Morris' job all season...you got your wish...and then some. The entire staff gets to celebrate being unemployed on Thursday. Have a nice chuckle over that one while you're stuffing your faces and I'm sure critiquing the Thanksgiving day football coaching. I can tell you there are a bunch of umass coaches and their families who have a little less to be thankful for this year. I'm disgusted even thinking of McCutcheon sitting in front of his elaborate feast with a big smile on his face.

What exactly did you think goes on when a coach is fired? Yes, I'll have a good laugh at you.
