this is our issue with Mass recruiting. the few good kids that play in our home state get scooped up by big school. once again we have no shot at this kid. hes getting d1 offers. so we settle for 2nd tier guys in our home state. id much rather recruit elsewhere where the competition level is higher.

I agree we offered Asprilla (BC), Rodgers (Cal), Orloff (Iowa), Reeves is looking at wake, virginia, penn st just to name a few.

You have a point, it does seem silly to waste your time recruiting a kid who is obviously headed to the FBS. I believe we do it because if the situation does not work out at the FBS school, and he wants to be local, he'll remember he was recruited here. We should still recruit MA kids who can play at the FCS level, and show interest in the higher ones.

I think the thought is that if it doesnt work out at the FCS level remember I liked you out of high school and you can always play for me. He didnt work out but Corey Eason would be an example of that.

To the first poster...If UMass can't get the MA kids getting "d1 offers", they won't be getting the same kids in other states. The quality of the players UMass is getting is equal, regardless of where they are coming from. UMass won't magically be getting the "first tier" guys by recruiting in a different state. Competition might be better in other states, but that really doesn't matter. UMass will still be getting the same quality players.

To the first post. Some kids are overlooked because of were they play, Look at #63 he played on the Cape and his first year leads all DL in tackles in just 4 games played. What recruiter drives past Brockton, Everett etc. It doesn't matter if they are from out of state. The state doesn't make the player. Also Mich didn't stop our run now did they! How many pros came from the "lower tiers".

I disagree I would take a kid from new jersey over a kid from mass. better competition.
