Matty V. reports that Notre Dame offensive coordinator Charley Molnar  is interested in the UMass job. Molnar's Irish bio.

The Boston Globe says UMass will announce Molnar's appointment this week.

The Globe also says Molnar's familiarity with the MAC is what attracted McCutcheon.

Bonus material on Molnar here  and here.

UPDATE: Football Scoop claims to have confirmed Molnar is UMass' next coach.

UPDATE II: Matty says Molnar's signing is "imminent"

The Fort Wayne Journal says Molnar could be on the move.

NBC Sports says Molnar targeted for UMass job.

Montana may get a ESPN Friday night game this week. The Grizzlies last Friday night ESPN game was against UMass in 2006.

I was remiss in not keeping up with Victor Cruz's dream season with the Giants. He's on track to become the Giants all-time single season receiving leader.

Joe Witt, the Packers DB coach says Cruz is a Pro-Bowl player.

Like it! Now where talking here. Molnar would be an excellent guy for the job, solid in recruiting. Search committee doing a good job, neal brown and molnar are quality guys to interview. I'm happy they are moving on from the past and not chasing whipple and brown. The upgrade here from morris and picucci is huge! Go umass

Like the pick. Molnar is a solid recruiter in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Hopefully he will help us get a solid QB recruit so that we don't have to deal with the interception bug anymore.

He should bring some excitement to the field with his pass heavy offense.

The committee did a great job.

(I hope these positive words don't come back to bite me in the a$$.)

Sounds like a great choice!!!!

I wonder if this means crist will come here for a year?

I am real excited about this hire if we can land Molnar! Exciting offense, understands the MAC, and may be able to bring some of the Ohio talent East.

If this is true this sends an immediate statement to the FBS world that were serious about competintg. His results at Cincy, MAC & ND speak for themselves. Not to mention landing ND's O-cordinator will get Umass instant PR on the ticker tape of ESPN. Great work McCutcheon! Now don't let the fish off the hook.

I'm thrilled with the choice as well and have high hopes for the future but we must remember that Bill Belichik, Vince Lombardi or Knute Rockne could not produce a winning record next year with the talent differential.
We must be patient.

Molnar reeks of desperation on McCutcheon's part. This hire is so he can go to EMass people and say "Look, I coached at Notre Dame." McCutcheon is hoping people will eat that up knowing how much catholics love Notre Dame.

How about a 2 for 1 with the IRISH now i like the sound of that

I'm surprised you approved the thinly veiled anti-Catholic bias of the "Look, I coached at Notre Dame" knucklehead.

Um Belichick's first season with the pats he went 5-11 the next year he went 11-5 and won the superbowl

A good PR move for umass. Notre dame on his resume, had success in the mac as an assistant. Seems to be a good move for the school.

Sometimes I trust people can figure out where the knuckle heads are coming from on their own.

BTW, I was a lector at Sacred Heart parish in Greenfield for more than 10 years.

If this guy wasn't at Notre Dame people wouldn't be celebrating. McCutcheon knows how adored Notre Dame is, and oddly enough EMass is full of catholics, and people are already falling for it.

OK, that's the last post from that guy.
