Matty Vautour says UMass is looking to break a two game losing streak against the Black Bears. He also reports that UMass captain Emil Igwenagu may be available for the game. Two weeks ago Emil got his legs rolled up on for the second time this season.
He also mentions UMass senior Anthony Nelson is now eligible to be an Academic All-American.
The Gazette also has Matty V's and Matt G's week 10 football picks.

Ron Chimelis has an article on the growth of UMass rookie DB's Antoine Tharpe and Mike Lee. Tharpe is a true freshman, which makes things even harder.
Last night's UMass football show had wide-receiver-turned-DB Ke'Mon Baily as one of the player guests. He sounded like very intelligent, thoughtful man.

The big game in the CAA this weekend is William & Mary at UNH.
TSN's Andrew Gaddess previews this week's FCS games and predicts a UMass win over Maine.

The Gridiron Power Index has UMass at #12. This poll is important as it is one of the inputs the NCAA selection committee considers for selection into the playoff tourney.

Another article on Big East expansion. I picked this one because it mentions the huge decline in status of the Catholic basketball schools. The money is strongly flowing to football. Schools like Providence, Seton Hall and St. John's have nothing athletic programs compared to state schools like UConn or Central Florida. I predict a split in Big East basketball with the Catholic schools being forced into their own league.
A Boston Globe writer thinks the Big East should consider UMass.

Playing against Maine for us the last few seasons has become pretty challenging.
For us to win we have to stop their run game. If RB Turcotte plays the whole game - he has been battling injuries - we will have to gang tackle him. He is most likely the single toughest runner in our conference and when healthy he is a load to bring down. One of the few RB's we will see this year who seems to play w/ the attitude of "how many of those on defense can I run over today?".
As for their defense they are built very similiar to BillnMary. They have 3 LB's who are very, very good. #4 Masterson - when healthy - is one of the better OLB's in the conference and the 2 ILB's #10 Dennis and # 40 Vinson play well all of the time and need to be blocked continuously or they will make plays.
Controlling these 4 players will generate a win for us on Saturday.
Our end of the week prediction is UMass 24 Maine 13
As for other conference games we are going with:
Delaware 32 Towson 16
UNH 27 William N Mary 21
Richmond 17 JMU 16
See you on Sat
were not moving into the big east. we have kevin morris and derek kellogg coaching are two biggest sports. We would take a beating in hoop and football we would become temple of the 90's. Not to mention we need a boatload of money to renovate the football stadium and facilities. its a pipedream lets focus on Maine and the CAA for now.
There is no absolute need to renovate the stadium and/or facilities to go FBS. It woulf be fantastic to get better facilities, but it's not a must.
Play all Big East home games at Gillette.
Play our one FCS game and one crappy FBS (example Central Michigan) at McGuirk. Or only one game at McGuirk depending on the 11/12 game cycle.
No facility upgrades needed.
p.s. We would KILL B.C. in home attendance if we played Big East games at Gillette.
Our bball team is trash in the A 10year in and year out. How are we going to compete with syracuse, georgetown, pitt, uconn, louisville. Calipari made Umass what it was, it will never return to that level again. every option is better than umass for the big east. you really think umass will draw 30,000 against towson in gillette next year? not happening
That's why I think men's basketball should be cut.
