The Day after Rhode Island--Nov 21st, 2010

The Boston Globe said UMass had a bad time.

The Boston Herald says UMass is on the Rhode to nowhere.

MassLive says the end came too quickly for the Minutemen.

Matty V says the Rams ended the UMass season

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TSN says the final playoff slots are still unclear.

The Selection "show" will be on ESPNU at 10:00 am. Hopefully, they won't screw it up as badly as they did last year.

UPDATE:

The CAA only was given four playoff slots. Click on the above graphic to see a larger view.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If we had won, as I said last night, strength-of-schedule would have been important as we would be by no means a lock for the playoffs.

Holy Cross won big over Bucknell.

Stony Brook lost to Liberty, which knocked them out of the playoffs.

Michigan lost big to #6 Wisconsin .

Dont tell me this team didnt have the talent to make the playoffs, we beat the CAA champs this season. Poor defensive gameplanning cost us the playoffs, plain and simple. Our offense was near the top the CAA, Havens in my mind was the most improved player in the league.

coastal carolina got into the playoffs at 6-5. the loss yesterday cost us the playoffs. They needed 90 yards to win the game and we cant get a stop.

Evelyn and I (Anthony Nelson's parents) would like to thank you for keeping us informed through out the season. We traveled to every game (form Florida) and depended on your daily blog to keep us aware and informed...we would also like to thank those of you whom also monitor the blog for for welcoming and supporting Anthony to the UMass community..although he attended Hofstra for three years, Anthony will forever be a UMass MINUTEMAN!!

Great to talk you both at the Michigan game.

Anthony was one of the most exciting players in FCS.

The blog wishes Anthony and his parents continued success!

Keep us informed about his chances of playing on the next level.

Just off the top of my head, I would think that the CFL would be a perfect fit for his talents.

Coastal Carolina won the Big South AQ.

Can you get your son some type of a waiver so he can come back next year? wish him the best he was a great addition for the team and a quality individual.

the obvious change will be the removal of dudsinzki as the coordinator. 2 years to get it right, couldnt put a quality defensive scheme together. He tried to mirror Brown's complex defense and got burned time and time again. If we had a more conservative approach, were in the playoffs. We couldnt get a big stop all year and gave up the big play all year. On a more positive note we finished as the #1 offense in the CAA and 14th in FCS. congrats to the offensive staff who really really turned things around from last year where they under achieved. Statistically I think this is best Umass offense in recent years. I was calling for Havens to be removed last year like everyone else, I'm going to miss him. You cant fault him for yesterday he was trying to make a play late in the game, kid made a great play on the ball.

How anyone can blame the defense is AMAZING!!!!!! they are placed in situations week in and week out. Yes, the offense has the stats but they dont put it in the endzone after they go down the field. I looked at my buddy yesterday and asked him who number 39 was? to my shock he is a walk on, didn't even have a scholarship. The defense has all young kids!!!!! to say they have Tyler Holmes, thats one player who can't cover all 11 positions. Give the defense a break!! Special teams as well as going on 4 downs doesn't help them.

Enough with the coach bashing unless someone has something original to say.

how can anyone blame the defense? they finished 8th in the caa, the offense finished first. you want to blame the offense? Ihedebo walked on too he sucks right. Carven walked on as a FRESHMAN, he recieved a scholarship because of his play later in his Umass career. To be honest I think he had a good season, you clearly didnt see much of the games. A lot of scholarship players that were seniors didnt play 1 percent of what Carven did this year, I wont name names.

Dudzinski was not mirroring Browns defense at all. For the past two seasons it was much more conservative. Brown had his corners play man to man which allowed for constant blitzing because the CBs could cover the WR themselves. Dudzinksi's D does very little blitzing.

Anybody who can't see THAT basic difference obviously doesn't watch that much.

offense went on 4th down because the kicker couldnt make a 30 yd fg. Minus the field goal kicking late in the year I thought our special teams was very good, nelson returning punts was awesome all year.

James Carven was #39 who yes walked on. he earned his way into a scholarship and starting role. similar to the way James Ihedego did who by the way is a millionaire playing for the New York Jets. Oh ya forget Tyler Holmes the possible FCS Player of the year was also a walk on, another bad player. Think before you say stupid things. carven is not the most talented kid but earned every bit of playing time.

FWIW... Stony Brook's loss alone didn't knock them out of the playoffs, their loss combined with the fact they game up >40 points did (54 total) because the tiebreaker used for Big South AQ came down to conference points allowed (season total). Coastal Carolina only gave up 3 points on Saturday. If it had been 17, the Seawolves would be playing this weekend instead.

To say our special teams were very good???? What games were you watching? Everytime they got on the field everyone was left to question what was or is going to happen? Blame can be placed all around. As Coach Morris said this team never played a whole 60 minutes..offense/defense/special teams. Lets hope they look at that in the off season and really improve for 2011. Lots of great things are coming down the pike for UMASS football. It starts today!

Our problem on defense all year was that we didnt get any pressure on the qb.

tyler holmes was not a walk on he started two games as a true freshmen dont try to act smarter than you are.... carven was a solid umass player and a great person i wish him the best of luck

Holmes was a recuited walk on. Meaning they recruited him but did not offer him a scholarship out of high school. He earned it. read the article
