Recruiting 2011- UMass adds five Spring semester players

Matty V has an article on UMass adding five players to the Spring roster.

Two, I have already blogged about:
Three are new names.

Kellen Pagel, a 6-2 192 pd QB transfer from Bowling Green. Some info about Pagel here. An article here about Kellen and his father Mike Pagel who started 54 NFL games.

Chris Burns, 5-11 200 pd RB transfer from Pittsburgh.

Burns Panther's bio here. PrepStar All-American and SuperPrep All-Northeast. Ranked #14 in the nation in HS. Rushed 32-78 1 TD while at Pitt. four star player.

Ryan Campbell, a 6-0 180 CB transfer from Mississippi.

Campbell's Rebels' bio here. Rated the #50 CB in the nation by ESPN.

Looks like some nice additions to the team.

These transfers are impressive. I have to think that they have managed to sneak in under the radar for the 2011 season if in fact UMass is headed to FBS. Must have been a potential selling point for the program. I can't recall transfers coming in from so many diverse schools in recent memory. Perhaps more on the way?

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a rule that states a player can transfer without losing eligibility to a program that is down a level as long as that institution is not intending to go up a division. I only ask because if Umass would have announced earlier it's intent to move to the MAC would these signees hadd to sit. If so maybe this is the reason for delaying our official invitation until after the signing period. Anyone know the rule?

Kellen Pagel looks like he may make a solid back up, it should be interesting to see him competing with Shultis for #2 and #3. I really don't see him impressing me that much by his film though, I think the depth chart will be Hill,Shultis(knows the offense already), Pagel, Hunt, Pendergrass.

Pagel will push Hill. No discussion on the rest.

The speed of the incoming skill position players, both transfers and freshmen, is tremendous.

pitt has two stellar running backs in lewis and graham. This kid could be a real steal for us. hes clearly looking for playing time and we can give it to him here.

Morris has a commit from a 2011 QB who is turning down FBS offers to come to UMass. He was on campus last weekend for an official visit. Has an uncommon last name.
