New England Soccer Today says if UMass upgrades their football program, it will likely help UMass Soccer .
FBS football would likely help most of UMass' other sports. Although "Old Cage" will tell you that my hockey ignorance is limitless, I believe FBS football would protect what is UMass' currently most popular sports program.

If the Big 10 should get serious about hockey, it would quickly make a big dent in leagues like the Hockey East. Schools like Providence, Lowell and Merrimack could not compete with the resources Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota would bring.

I watched Delaware dominate UNH in the second half of last night's FCS Quarterfinal game.

The Hens Pat Devlin clearly outplayed UNH's R.J. Tolman, who was erratic in his passing all night.

Meanwhile, Appalachian State-Villanova is creating a buzz.

The Phidelphia Inquirer says the Wildcats recognize the challenge they will face playing the Mountaineers.

Mrs Blog and I are going to the UMass-Seton Hall game tonight. I watched the Pirates play Arkansas on ESPN a couple of nights ago and Seton Hall looked like a good team. It would be nice to get a win, especially since the Minutemen did not win any of the basketball games we went to last year...

Hockey is the one sport that is just about completely insulated from whatever football does, because the conference situation is so different from the rest of the NCAA sports.

FCS should abolish their playoff system and establish Bowls between the conferences - look at the attendance - Div-I Bowls will remain because they make money. If the CAA played in a Bowl against another I-AA conference the teams and conferences would make money.

The University of New Hampshire football team didn't have enough answers for Delaware's defense, or senior quarterback Pat Devlin, and lost 16-3 on Friday night in front of 8,770 in Delaware Stadium.

Anonymous hockey guy

Could you elaborate on why that is so?

I'm interested.

hockey team plays in the SEC of college hockey. they are superior to the football program by conference.

Penn State just added hockey as a varsity sport. It appears that if the Big Ten started a conference in hockey, it would absolutely dominate college hockey.

I agree with Frank that an FBS UMass football program would help the other teams. Scheduling ooc opponents like Michigan and LSU and Georgia could only help in terms of payout and exposure. Gillette would sell out if any high profile team was scheduled.

The SEC girl's cross country teams have a bigger budget than Providence or Lowell hockey.

If the Big Ten gets serious about hockey, the rest of the country will be reduced to bit players.

some of the greatest players to ever play were hockey east players. hall of fame players, all stars. while vladimir ducasse cant even dress on a mediocre nfl squad.

disagree, BU/BC are the two best programs in the country and have produced hundreds of NHL players over the years. They arent going to the big 10, hockey east will be fine as long as they still play in it.
