Ten Days into the new coach search 01/18/09

One recruit we missed out on is starting for the Steelers today.

A blog reader reminded me that Matt Lawrence is still on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. He has a chance to get a Super Bowl ring like Brandon London did with the Giants last year.

Speaking of recruiting, this is an excellent article on how Maine gets recruits to go to Orono, ME.

Looks like Old Dominion will have some good things to tell recruits.

You remember Dave Clawson was head coach at Richmond for four years. He also had successful stints at Villanova and Fordham. He was fired at Tennessee. The Volunteers players were mind boggled by his offense.

Key quote" There was too much thinking going on" .

Bowling Green just hired Clawson as its new head coach. Six Falcons were named to the MAC all-academic team. The Blog thinks its a good bet Bowling Green won't have any problems with his offense.

Nice article about Maine and how they recruit.

Our goals are higher than theirs, I hope we are trying to win the National Championship every year. If we have leadership at the athletic director level, we should be able to recruit the type of athletes to enable us to do so. ie. we need sufficient funds to fly where the recruits are so that we can scout them and establish a personal relationship with them and their families.

You can't recruit the type of athlete we are looking for by telephone.

I also like their Mahaney Dome which enables them to practice regardless of the weather.

Yup. Cosgrove is candid and has been there for a long stint. Something to be said about honesty. No accident that many of his former players are in the NFL, though I wonder what the graduation rate is compared to UMass.

Jeremy Cain just signed with the Redskins for another player in the NFL
