GREAT NEWS!!!!!

Ugh. I hope all our current halfbacks have strong arms.

This is almost as bad as having Busch for 4 more years! If thats the best we can do lets drop football altogether.

Anonymous said...

If you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all!!!We have had enough people like you around!!
We are trying to build a program at UMASS!

Anonymous said...

No one can really know for sure about how a coach fits in at a school, until he or she proves they can get it done. As a UMASS fan I say good luck,I like this man's character and background. Now let's get some more studs for next year!! Go UMASS!!!

Lets be objective. Yale hired a coach from the NFL, something that will certainly be a drawing card for recruits.

We hired "the option pass coach". It is another sad day for the UMass Football Program.

Being objective doesn't mean we don't want Morris to succeed. I would certainly like to be wrong and see us win the national championship. The minimum I expect is to win the CAA North so Mr. Morris, lets see you do some serious recruiting from the Junior Colleges. There still are many studs who haven't committed.

obviously you haven't been around major programs. you need to build from the ground up. nothing against juco's some kids need it. but you need to build a solid base with kids that are there 4-5 years so you don't get a lapse in between. you also need to do your homework on why they are at a juco to begin with, some sort of problem usually surrounding them. that's why you often see fluctuation in programs at the fcs level, the juco lifespan is shortlived. you don't build a house from the top down, you need a solid foundation.Go UMASS!

UMass was worried that Bicknell would stay only briefly. Morris

Anonymous said...

Syrucuse hired Robinson from the NFL and what did he accomplish? Morris will do just fine, if not better. Look what happened with the Pats after they hired Bill to head up the team.

This is the worst hire in umass sports history! Ill say it everywhere to everyone who will listen. I am not happy with this hire and my support for this team will drop until proven otherwise. At least I dont have to make a trip out east for 2 weeks every fall anymore. UGH. Sad day!

Anonymous said...

i hope this is a big joke....this is terrible....umass is headed straight to the shits

Anonymous said...

good, don't come. we don't need ya.a true umass fan sticks with it, win or lose. GO UMASS!!!

Anonymous said...

ok for all the people that have no clue about umass football. kevin morris is possibly the worst person for the job. how can you like his background??? he hasnt been in any real success programs. he has been calling plays for the last couple of years. and the offense has sucked dick. his play calling ability is the worst

Anonymous said...

just go away, we don't need your negativity. coach brown always gave his players a chance, let's give morris one. you never know what someone can do unless he's given a chance. don't judge a book by it's cover.

Anonymous said...

Our fans suck anyways so if you don’t want to come to the games than don’t, and stop talking shit about a coach which you don’t know anything about him.

Anonymous said...

just watched the news conference, morris is a classy guy. he'll do well. just hope all the the othere coaches stay on like he said.

Anonymous said...

why do our fans suck anyway? other schools have a great turnout for home games. I guess they are all whimps when it comes to tailgating.

Anonymous said...

its funny because all of you claim you you know whats going on within the program however you dont know that coach morris will do a fine job. The staff has great chemistry/relationship with the team and thats most important. The players in the system wanted coach morris to be the coach and it seems as if the team has come to rally together around morris for this hiring. i would rather see the team play better now because they are playing for a coaching staff they respect then to see the program suffer for a couple years while a brand new staff sets their system in place. all your negativity is nothing but a setback for the start of a new era in umass football. enough already. we need all the support we can get

Anonymous said...

Let me guess... Umass couldn't afford to buyout the coaching staff with the budget cuts so it was just easier to let them all stay.......... uggh

After seeing WHY Morris resignedor basicaly fired from WPI,this hire
makes no sense. He lied, cheated and lcked intergrity to get a 24-32 record. Can you imagine his record if he played straight up!

Anonymous said...

It ready doesn't matter if Kevin Morris wins every game for as long as he remains here.

This is one of the most foolish hires ever made. The competence of McCutcheon continues to be called into question. We are supposed to be a top-10 program. A top-10 program hires a coach with a track record. We aren't supposed to be a WPI or a Bryant or a Yale. We are supposed to be better. We aren't are we.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like Bill Belichick!!!!

Anonymous said...

"the competence of mccutcheon continues to be called into question" has to be the most ridiculous quote I've seen, and this blog has a lot of crazy comments. you want to back that up with something? morris is a good hire and any of you that say otherwise have to get your head out of your a-h and stop blaming him for some bad calls that may or may not have been his decision. you're either with us or against us and all you haters out there can stay home next year...we don't need your bad vibes sitting there wishing for morris to fail so you can be proved right! DB wasn't a saint...look how he came here from NE. He stays at a place long enough to use the previous coaches players, look good and then move on...maybe he was doing some of the play calling...he was the head coach after all!

Anonymous said...

To the last poster: this may sound harsh but your last post is one of the—NO--it is the, most stupid comment I've ever read on this blog. All the things you wrote about Brown can be said about Morris too. He (Morris) has been Brown's top assistant for the past nine years; so he won with other coaches players too and then moved on. If Morris has more supporters like you, UMass football is in for a world of hurt—but your too stupid to even understand that concept.

Morris owes Brown everything he has received since he was FIRED at a D3 school—like the UMass job.

Anonymous said...

Wow,
And I thought I was harsh-tough comments-Lets hope he gets more creative as head coach than he was as Offensive Coordinator/misdirections/option ect.
lets really see what Octavious can do if given an opportunity

I am not sure how crazy I am about the hire but being the head coach is a lot different than the OC. More important let's see what he has been able to do to hold this recruiting class together. I just hope he does not waste scholarships on guys that do not belong here. He is better off waiting until after spring and seeing what transfers may be available or signing a larger class next year.

Anonymous said...

I would say that a lot rides on who Morris hires as OC. Hang tight until that is announced.

Anonymous said...

Picucci will be fine as the OC. He's well respected by players past and present. BC was about to steal him away.

umassfan said...

There must be alot of players on this blog sticking up for the guy because they are the only people I know who wanted him to be the head coach. They only want him because he will be like Brown and let them do whatever they want. Brown was a players coach and could not control him teams. It showed on and off the field. UMass needed a coach who would make the players fear him and listen to him instead of walk all over him. Brown played his fav players on D even when better players were on the team. I dont want to see this trend continue. Also Morris has no clue how to run an offence nevermind a team. He burned out his players causing them to be injured. Without this, UMass would have won 3-4 more games in the last few years.

umass said...

I just hope Picucci leaves, guy is a dirtbag, we're guna end up running the ball 50 times a game

Anonymous said...

"If Morris has more supporters like you, UMass football is in for a world of hurt—" WTF!!! Now THAT is THE most stupid thing I've read! So what...we're supposed to abandon our team now?! Are you kidding me...let's get behind our team and support it like true fans are supposed to. All your neg postings are pathetic...move on and support the team or get out!

umassfan said...

All these Anonymous posters need to put their name or msg board name to their posts otherwise I could care less what you have to say. Neg or not... Umass football as we know it has taken a huge hit. UMass will be a 4 win team next year any prob for the next few years till they realize Morris is the second comming of Steve Lappas!

Anonymous said...

Sorry...after 8 years of Bush I forgot people can have there own opinions and not be un-UMass-ican...carry on.
your's truly,

"says some clown not using his own name"

People who follow UMass sports online know who I am from the name UMassfan. I am not hiding behind the name Anonymous. You just dont have the balls to announce yourself. So therefore that makes you the clown.

Anonymous said...

What if my board name is "Anonymous"?

This is an awesome arguement, that I have enjoyed during lunch, thank you. Lets have more fun. Anyone ever see Coach Dudzinski on the cover of rolling stone circa de 84 for an article of Bruce Springsteen Fanatics.
Possibly the best fun fact ever!

Coach Morris is a class individual and we wish him all the best. I like him as the new head coach AND the resulting retaining of the coaching staff. My only regret is that Morris is relinquishing the offensive coordinater job.

Yes, I can see you have prestige in your digital world but you still haven't said who you are and you're using an alias clown. Some of us have better things to do than track down the idenity of some guy pretending to know something. Most of us aren't interested in your opinion and aren't sure why you're so interested in ours. Have fun patrolling the internet clown.

Oh, and BTW, registering on umasshoops and AnyGivenSaturday doesn't give you any credibility on the subject so but I can guess that you're more of a complainer than someone who knows the game from what I've read in your posts in other places.

Again why are you hiding behind Anonymous... Im still waiting. I am far from a pro regarding college football but I have been going to UMass football games for 21 years now and grad from UMass in 04. Who you are, I have no clue. I will continue to say this is the worst hire in UMass sports history and hope everyone enjoys the 4 win season next year. The more and more that comes out about Morris the more and more I hate the hire. I am far from the only one like this. You are prob just some player who is all over his jock for playing time and you wont announce yourself due to that fact. Again the only people I know who are thrilled with this hire are current UMass players. Past UMass players I was cool with during my UMass days think it is a joke.

This staff is a great group of coaches made up of a great group of guys. Let's give them a chance to show us what they can do with Coach Morris as their leader. It is always easy to be a critic and a Monday morning quarterback. These coaches dedicate a lot of time into improving this program and being the best that they can be on a daily basis. I am sure they will continue to do so.

Why is there such a big need to be negative and be childish by referring to coaches in insulting ways? Let's be good fans and be supportive of this team and this program as they begin this new chapter. Hopefully they will be successful and when they are those of you who have been so negative will take the time to write in some positive comments. Best of luck to the Coach Morris and his staff. Go UMASS!!!

I beg to differ with the poster who stated that Picucci is well liked by the players. I lived next door to two offensive linemen this year who started this year and they really hated the guy. They thought he did a decent job in teaching them technique but they said they could not stand the cite of him. Another couple of linemen who graduated last year and visit these guys said they would never want to see Piccuci again in their lives and do not stop to see him when they are in town. They both started two years for us. As a coach I got the impression that Piccuci can do a basic job only and as a person he is a terrible human being according to these players. All of these guys said in so many words that Piccuci uses embarrassment as a means to demean players which discouraged them from trying harder especially last season. They felt he could not control the drugs and several of the starting linemen on the team. He often made threats which he could not or did not carry out that would have improved the offensive lines effort. I never experienced the guy as a coach so I really do not know what he is like as a person except what I have been told by a number of his former players. I know if I were good enough to be a prospect for UMass and were an offensive linemen candidate the personality of the position coach would be one of my main concerns. Maybe moving him up to OC is one way of solving the problem? I hop so for our sake!

umassfan,
for someone who doesn't care for Anonymous comments, you certainly sound like it. So let me get this right, you're a recent grad who got information from players you "were cool with". So your proof of your football prowess and strong analysis of coaching comes from 21 years as a fan and some drinking buddies.

BTW, you're still hiding behind an anonymous name since I highly doubt your real name is umassfan and now you're hiding behind anonymous players. Strong argument in your case. You must be a lawyer. (lol)

I think everyone knows all they need to know about you now so I'll leave it for them to determine whether they should post their names so that you can determine their legitimacy. I'll decline your invitation based on your proximity though and you guess who I am. Pontificate away while we all get a chuckle.

BTW, that might be the third post you've accused people of being players. That and your "coolness with them" leads me to believe you might want to seek some help for your fascination with athletes. ;)

A good coach need neither be loved--nor even liked--by his players. He need only know what he seeks from them, how to motivate them, and to earn their respect by being an excellent coach. You want like? find a fishing buddy. You want to win? Give me a hard-nosed SOB who can engender excellence from his players. End of story.

umassfan is probably one of those kids who sucks up to football players so he can tell people he's friends with them. what a loser. Get a life. Obviously you are not a true fan if you'd turn on a team you have watched for 21 years because of their coach. UMass football is far bigger than 1 coach, its about the player (past and present), fans, and alumini who have been with the program through the good and the bad. Don't bother coming to anymore games when you see that your wrong and we start winning, because no one wants you there. by the way you should change your tile because your clearly not a true umass fan.

Hated coaches that know only the basics don't continuously have one of the best sack allowed records. Either he's got so much talent which he recruited or he's better than average.

Bob McGovern said...

I don't think this is the greatest hire, in fact I pretty much think it sucks. However, I hope that it will help our recruiting - as evidenced by today's signing. I think, from all accounts I have read and heard, that Morris is good with the kids... perhaps that will translate to wins. I'm just hoping that he's not calling offensive plays anymore.

Anonymous said...

picucci is a good coach former o-lineman do hate him, like matt austin, obviously players who write on this wall want to keep their name confidential, because no player wants to be on a coaches shit list as a current player picucci treats his o-line awful the guys respect him because he makes threats he is a solid coach no argument there, but he is truly hated by most of the guys on offense and wouldn't be surprised about guys who hate him on defense

Anonymous said...

Enough about Picucci. As a former O-Line man here, I can tell you that he is a great O-Line coach. There is a reason we had one of the best O-Lines in 1AA for the last several years. Is he hard and and tough to deal with at practice, YES but when you look back at it you realize that he is a great O-Line coach. Did you notice that when BC thought they were losing their O-Line coach Picucci was thought to be in the running. And Oh yeah how many so called disgruntled line men have transfered out?
