Game Day ---- Albany 08/30/08

The Boston Herald has a game day article here . Note that they report John Ihne has taken over the starting right guard position.

Jeff Thomas of the Springfield Republican has another here .

From the Albany side, the Schenectady Times has one here . The Albany Times here . And the Capital News here .

Matty Vautour has a opening game story here . He recaps UMass' history of home night games here .

Matty has a blog entry on Brandon London hanging on with the Giants.

Marcel Shipp was cut by the Texans .

You will remember in a previous post I linked to an article stating we were receiving $450,000 for our Texas Tech game. This reporter says $475,000. This reporter says $300,000 (which is the figure I believe was quoted last year). These big time MSM reporters would not write a story without actually checking the facts would they?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The College Sporting News site is back up. Bruce Dowd's CAA opening week forecast is here .

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CAA's Game Day page has gone active .

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The weather is supposed to be in the low 70's with 30% chance of showers. Winds light. Hourly forecast here .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Go UMass!

I recall we received considerably less for playing BC than every other school I follow and I posted on the subject. I doubt that we only received $300K for playing Texas Tech.
Didn't you post that the Athletic Department (Football Media Relations, Jason Yellin) emails you news releases daily? What does he have to say?

I had John Ihne as the back up C with Josh Samuda starting at RG backed up by Chauncey Incarnato. Interesting that John jumped ahead of Josh and Chauncey. John is a RS-SO while Josh is a RS-FR and Chauncey a RS-SR.

They had Getek at RG/RT all through camp. What's up with that? We'll see at kickoff. Can't wait. The car is all packed and so ready for some football.

Perhaps our U Buffalo transfer
Brandon Flanagan OL RS SO 6-2 300
Reading, Mass.
Wakefield H.S./Buffalo
who was #2 on their depth chart has come in and taken over the backup center position.

If Sean Calicchio remains healthy all year Brandon can take a redshirt.

Delaware is playing Maryland (0-0 now) on ESPN National TV. Take a good look at Delaware's OL and how they are pushing the Maryland DL around as they run between the tackles. Pretty impressive even if they lose.

Good goal line defense at the end of the 1'st half.

Ostaszewski, R-FR, came in at RG when Getek went out. I am suprised we didn't see Incarnatro.

Samuda, R-FR, is now in at RG with Ostaszewski, R-FR, now at RT

Cobyln back in at RT with Samuda remaining in at RG

At the end of the game

61 Ihne
63 Calicchio

67 Ostaszewski

I'm not surprised to see the OL coach go with R-Fr. He is looking to his future and a R-Sr. like Incarnato at this point is just dead meat to him. Its' not like these players and their loyalty to the school mean anything to these coaches nowadays. But I do think if they could of gotten Incarnato eligible last year then it would have been a different outcome to his career. I just don't understand why he is listed as the backup when they played three or four R-Fr. and not him.

Game wrap-up statistics don't look so good. However what stands out is that Hawkins is listed under player participation".

Did anyone see when and where he was on the field?
