I went to the first day of practice today, not bad. Alot of Competition at The QB position, Octavious Hawkins will be UMASS's next premier QB, i promise you that. You Can Just tell by his presence on the field. It Shouldn't be a hard pick for Kevin Morris. Just By Watching, all the other QB's do not have that same desire and leadership as Hawkins perceives to have.
Scott Woodward a 5th year Sr in Coach Morris system, he should be given a chance. He has showed he can move the ball when given a chance, BC game and Texas Tech just to name a few.
I saw both our next premier QB and the new guy from CA throw 2 pics yesterday (3rd practice by the way). Other QB's incl #13 looked better yesterday!
yeah Hawkins did throw two picks, i think he is excited right now he needs to settle down and relax, he looked poised though, all of the qb's look good to me though i think 13 has a great shot by thursday's practice. Hawkins need to step up if he will be the "Premier Qb"
you talk about the quaterbacks
throwing interceptions but you dont
mention what defensive backs made them. it helps the rest of get a feel for the team
Poise The Key Word. First year QB after A 4 year starting QB, Poise is something you need in the game first, as a quarter back. They should be giving in to Hawkins and See what he can do, especially in the game. His style of play is different from the other Qb's. I think that is what UMASS needs right now to get their season jump started.
anonymous, why do they need to 'give in to hawkins'? this is open competition and the best QB will earn the job, plain and simple!
hawkins will never play qb for umass. he cant learn the offense and isnt a dropback qb. he will never step foot on he field as a starting qb for umass in his time here. umass isnt a spread offense. its a pro style offense that desires a smart game manager who can control the tempo. not an ''athlete'' playing qb.
wow how do any of you know he cant manage the offense go on his highlight tape on youtube this kid takes the hit in the pocket and nothing rattles this kid he is so poised on his tape like the defense isnt there. He have never even ran the spread offense a day in his life, I hope this kid make you eat your words he will step up i can feel it
Whatever your opinion or perceptions, there is very good competition at QB, which will only help the team. If Hawkins is not a pro-style, spread offense signal caller, then he certainly can be used to offset defenses that are well prepared for a w.c.o. Woodward should be given a good shot at winning the starting role, but if there's someone more adept at what Morris has in mind, bring him on. How are the LBs functioning?
all 5 QB'a are being given an equal shot to win the job regardless of class, color, or anything else! the best performer will prevail as our starting QB and Morris' opinion is all that counts when it is all said and done!
what are you talking bout no one said anything bout color or anything else, dont put your two cents in if no one asked for an idiotic opinion you sound stupid
2 cents
Need to have Hawkins on the field_he is very athletic
Reading Morris comments on Brandon Collier "who was solid last season"
FOR WHO??
Out of shape-hurt/ect
anything exciting happen at Saturday morning practice? Any highlights or narrowing of the QB field? 5 seems like a lot to be taking reps.
