One day after losing starting QB Matt Johnson for the season, the Bowling Green Falcons lose a starting DT.

After Week #1, five MAC teams are projected for bowl selection.

Two Western Michigan players get charged with shoplifting.

Last week the MAC played mostly FCS teams UMass and Western Michigan who both played BCS teams. Bowling Green was crushed by non-BCS WKU. This week most of the league steps up and Vegas odds makers have the following:

  • Army by 3 over Buffalo
  • Missouri by 3.5 over Toledo
  • Penn State by 14 over Akron
  • Purdue by 3.5 over Central Michigan
  • South Alabama by 3 over Kent State
  • Colorado by 17 over UMass
  • Kentucky by 13.5 over Ohio
  • Northwestern by 7.5
  • Iowa over Ball State by 17.5
  • Florida over Eastern Michigan by 38
  • Pitt over BC by 4
  • Ole Miss over Vanderbilt by 20

Cain will also wear #44 for the Bears
This article has a section on Jeremy Cain's return to the Bears. Back in 2002, Mrs Blog and I went to the UMass -North Carolina State game. Sat in the same row as Mrs Whipple and the two boys. Cain was the best defensive player on the field that day. Cain led the UMass defense with 12 tackles, two TFL, two BKUP's  and a forced fumble. Seems like a long time ago now.

I was at the NC State game in 2002 as well. Jeremy Cain crushed their star TA McClendon on an end around with a bone jarring tackle and the crowd went silent. The replacy was shown on their jumbotron and for a while the crowd was subdued. Eventually, their special teams overwhelmed us and they also had some TD's on defense. I think. He was great.

UMASS has the highest attendance thus far this year in the Baystate, 30,499. BC drew 30,083against Pitt at home. This included counting people who did not show, Groupon ticket sales, family packages for four with 4tix,dogs,cokes for 50. Good job by UMASS marketing thus far. I'm looking for sellouts at McGuirk.

There were a lot of empty seats at BC last night. As long as they bought tickets, it counts towards attendance.
