Friday--August 26th, 2016

Mic'd up with UMass defensive coordinator Tom Masella. His UMass bio.

Dan Malone looks at the potential two-deep for the Minutemen. Players who were not on our radar at the start of camp would be:

Adam Breneman TE

Sadiq Palmer at WR.

Peytton Pickett and Bilal Ally at RB

Jake Largay and Raquan Thomas in the OL.

Isaiah Rogers in the defensive secondary.

Colburt Calhoun at LB

Dan has a post on QB Andrew Ford is feeling more comfortable. Ford probably doesn't know the offense that well at this stage in his career at UMass. Still think he's going make a strong bid to start sometime down the line.

Suspended Gator players Teez Tabor and C'yontai Lewis won't play against UMass.

Formerly suspended Gator WR Antonio Callaway thinks he'll be playing in the season opener against the Minutemen.

UMass plays one of the Group-of-Five's best teams when they tangle with Louisana Tech later this year. USA Today looks at the Bull Dog's floor and ceiling for the 2016 season. The writer expects a blowout win against the Minutemen.

Tech gets a DB transfer from Oregon State who can play right away.

Victor Cruz is ready to play against the Jets.

It'll be Cruz's first game action in 685 days.

Iowa's Chris Doyle is now the highest-paid strength coach in the country at $595,000 a year. UMass' coach Connolly probably doesn't make that much.

Will The Minuteman Marching Band adorn the worn out uniforms and play the same bad music they played the last few years? If so, turn up the PA announcers microphone.

I think a lot of people are sleeping on Umass... we may not get a lot of wins because of our schedule but I'm hearing this is the deepest team with talent that we have ever had. Coaches are saying we are much better at this point than we were last year. I think this team has some surprises.

I sent the UMMB a contribution for new uniforms. Did anonymous?

Yes, we have a lot more FBS athletes this year. It won't make a difference with the SEC teams or BYU, but I'm hoping it will with BC.

The Eagles would go 0-4 against the teams above. They squeaked by NIU last year for their only FBS win. If BC and 9-4 Louisiana Tech played last year, it would have been a very close game with Don Brown's killer defense against the Bull Dogs high octane offense. Louisiana Tech was a better team than NIU last year.

I don't know how anyone can draw any positive conclusions about this team especially after losing key players and a (good) recruiting class, albeit one that has no college football experience save the few JC recruits. It would appear that the team is finally being cultivated for FBS football, but the inexperience and youth combined with an extraordinary schedule, suggest to me this team will be overachieving with four wins.

The band has not been the same since GNP passed, for sure. And yes we donate to them. My better half was a four year member of the P and C.
