Friday News ----- July 9th, 2010

Phil Steele's 2010 Preseason All-CAA team is here (pdf download). Five UMass players make the list. UMass' Emil Igwenagu and Tyler Holmes make the first team offense and defense respectively. John Griffin, Julian Talley and Josh Samuda make the 2nd team offense.

BTW, add Towson's Yaky Ibia ( 2nd team All-CAA) to my list of favorite sports names.

Josh Buchanan writes on three FCS players (including Vladimir Ducasse) to sign NFL contracts recently.

A Richmond-Times writer says UMass has struggled to win consistently in the CAA. He must have slept through the Whipple and Brown eras. UMass has winning series records with James Madison, Richmond,William & Mary and Towson...

USC fullback D.J. Shoemate is transferring to UConn.

Appalachian State's Armanti Edwards reportedly signed a $2.5 million deal with the Carolina Panthers.

I saw this link over on the New Hampshire Football report. UNH's Scott Sicko is all football now.
