Worst. Fans. Ever.

If you were listening to the URI radio feed you may have heard that the UMass team left the field without shaking hands with the Rhody players.

The reason was that that there was a group of Rhody "fans", who appeared to be URI students behind the UMass bench. They were leaning over the rail/hedge and spitting on the UMass players.

That provoked several confrontations between UMass parents and the group. There was also a near fight after the game.

At least two times UMass fans asked a URI cop who was nearby to step in. He walked away laughing. It was ugly and classless.

If anyone from the URI administration wants an image of the group, I've got one. I do not have an image of the cop, but they should fire his ass.

Yes, they were obnoxious punks.

I can't believe that URI cop. Twice he was asked to step in.

I never saw anything like that.

Everyone is certainly over-reacting to those kids. All they were doing was cheering for their team. There was no spitting, stop trying to say there was. They rarely said anything about the players, but were cheering for their team. I wish UMass had some students who would actually do that. Try listening to what UMass students say - what those few URI kids were saying is nothing compared to that. If you want classless look at the URI players after the game who took down the sign for Coen, took it on the field and stomped on it.

I was at the game those "fans" werent cheering for their teams they were harassing and spit and the UMass players who should have but didnt do anything. When their parents stepped in the "fans" replied with F**k you and mocked them. A bunch of disrespectful punks who should have got a good beating.

The few URI kids were nowhere near as bad as the W&M students, yet I didn't hear anybody bring up how bad they were. The URI kids were loud and annoying, but that was about it. The weather and how UMass was performing had more to do with UMass fans feelings towards the kids then their actual actions. They were not that bad, anybody who thinks so is being much too sensitive.

UMass fans who chose to attended the BC-FSU game were almost as bad. Strange enough that they were there to begin with, stranger still that they chose to shout more anti-BC cheers than the FSU people (i.e., cursing at refs and BC players, shouting nasty things at nearby BC fans after FSU scores, etc). I don't get any fan who spends that much time hating any rival team (Yankees, Colts, etc), but when it's a team your school almost never plays, it's even sadder and stranger.
