Ahh, this NCAA stuff is beyond me. I do know, if they contact an agent, they're history as far as college is concerned. They can't back out once they declare.
thanks for the info I am the mother of a red shirt Jr and he wants this to be his last year much to my dismay dont know what to do! thanks for your help love this blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should speak with a coach or someone who knows NCAA regs.
If a college players is considering coming out early, he needs to think about this carefully.
IMHO, unless the player is a SURE early draft pick, it's better to play his senior year. And he should know that agents and team draft contacts lie like rugs for a living...

Are they only following seinors or red shirt jrs.also how does it work if they dont do a 5th year?
I believe it is any player they consider NFL material. In the BCS schools, the list includes players that may declare early.
2008 would be the year that they leave school and declare themselves eligible.
so do they need to declare and can they change their mind and do a 5th year how exactly does it work?
