6th Annual Friends of Football Golf Classic

The UMass Friends of Football will be holding their 6th annual Golf Classic on Monday July 23, 2007. The event will be held at the Haverhill Country Club.

This is the Friends premier fund raising event of the season. Coach Brown and other UMass coaches will attend.

There will be a dinner and Awards Ceremony after golf followed by a preview of the 2007 season by Coach Brown.

Scheduled to attend are former UMass players, alums and supporters of the UMass program. Also scheduled to attend are former UMass Coaches Dick MacPherson, Bob Pickett, Mark Whipple and Mike Hodges.

I've been to these Classics before. Being able to listen to college football legend Dick MacPherson tell a football story is a privilege. Meeting former coaches Mike Hodges, Bob Pickett and Mark Whipple is great.

Anyone interested in attending (and you can just go to the reception if you want) should contact Joyce Gorman at the UMass Football Office 413-545-2026.

I've said many times on this Blog that all UMass football fans should belong to the Friends. They are the prime movers in supporting the UMass football program. If you want to watch winning football, then join the friends!

Great Organization. Something we have needed for a long time. I would like to see the information on their web site updated monthly. That creates the impression progress is being made.

I like the list of projects on the home page.

1. Installation of a state-of-the-art artificial playing surface.
2. Installation of permanent lighting tower system.
3. Installation of artificial playing surface at the Gladchuck Practice Facility

With #1 completed we need a checkmark next to it :)

What percentage of the total cost of the lights did Chancellor Lombardi ask the alumni to raise and how close to that goal are we?

I agree that the Friends website should be up-dated more frequently. I was sorta offered the job of doing that, but I have my hands full with the Blog. Hopefully, it will get better.

As for the lights, when I see John McCutcheon in person, I'll ask him and give a report on it here.
