Monday News---June 14th, 2010

I didn't know players from schools like USC that have been hit with NCAA penalties can transfer without sitting out a year. First saw this article over on the Draft Daddy blog.

The untiring Josh Buchanan has his:

An article featuring new William & Mary QB Mike Paulus. UMass fans will get to see how good he is on on September 4th.

Yesterday was eighty three days until football. Emil Igwenagu, RS JR TE who is 6-1 240, will be wearing #83 for the Minutemen this year. Emil played in ten games and started 3 for UMass in 2009. He rushed 6-11. Igwenagu was the third leading receiver last year going 24-288 12 AVE 1 TD 52 LONG and 26.2 YDS/GAME. Just to round things off, he had 2 UT 1 AT and 3 TT. The blog hopes he has a monster year in 2001.

Today is eighty two days until the Tribe and wearing #82 is Andrew Kervis a 6-6 245 pd RSJR TE. Kervis was the sixth leading receiver in 2009. He played in all eleven games in 2009 starting 1. Kervis had 4-45 11.2 AVE 2 TD's 20 LONG and 4.1 YARDS/GAME. Two TD's in four catches is pretty good production.

Just want to check and see if there was an oversight in leaving Shane Viveiros off the db's voting list ?

What Happen To Shane Vivieros for the DB's ? He Is The Starting SS...

Yes my error. I checked the roster twice and sill missed Shane.

The poll cannot be edited after someone votes so I will have to delete it and start over.

Octavious Hawkins is no longer on the roster. I heard he was transferring to a school in NC. Anyone know where he landed?

Octavious Hawkins transferred and they brought in a transfer JUCO QB.
Looks like it should be a nice battle for the QB spot between Havens and Hill this summer then.

thats so sad why are we running off players right now. we have no depth to begin with.

I apparently inadvertently deleted a comment by a reader asking if Hawkins was really gone.

I have no "inside" information as to players status. I assume we will find out in due course what happened to Octavius.

I assume the UMass brain trust would want Hill to redshirt a year to get familiar with the offense. I also assume Kyle Havens has the inside track on starting this year.

I also have no problems with Hawkins transferring if he thinks he will get more PT that way. I hope he does well and is successful.

I have no problems with the current coaching staff bringing in a QB who fits their style. Everybody does that. Hill is the guy they wanted. Hope he is an All-American.

Octavious transferred to D2 Winston Salem State University who plays in the CIAA. They won only one game last season. WSSU is in the D2 Super Region 1, which interestingly, also includes California University of PA who won the Region 1 last season and advanced to the national semi-final game where they lost to national champ, Northwest Missouri State. Scott Wallace, another former Umass QB, will play safety for CalU this season. If WSSU improves significantly we could have Hawkins throwing passes against Wallace in the playoffs!

This thread is eating comments for some reason. I approved two last night and they are not showing up. That's three so far. I'm not sure what's happening with this particular thread.
