UPDATE: The UMass website has a story and video from the Minutemen's fourth day of practice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matty V. has a story that says Kellen Pagel is still out with an undisclosed injury.

Matty also lists five players from the Spring Roster that are no longer with the team:
Moas was highly praised by the previous staff and played in two games as a true freshman.

The same article stated true freshmen Tajae Sharp and Dalvin Battle have impressed in camp so far. Both are wide receivers.

Battle was a 5-11 175-pound RB from Fort Meyers, FL.

Baseball fans: drunk or idots?

I watched a number of fan interference calls at the Red Sox game last night. What really blows my mind is watching fans beg for the ball while it is in play...

Monday--May 7, 2012

I was looking at potential reinforcements for this coming season. The UMass Spring roster has eleven redshirt freshmen. The list is offense-heavy.

Offense:
 Defense:
In addition, we have a transfer:
With Rob Blanchflower, who went 18-206 1 TD in 2011 this group is TE heavy. Dan Foesel was the only three star recruit in last year's class. It will be interesting to see how Coach Molnar incorporates tight ends into the spread offense.

ESPN Boston has an aticle from Mass High School Football Coaches Annual Combine. The story has information about a number of recruits UMass has either offered or is interested in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OT, but Coach Cal has his own website (natch!), and he has an article where he talks about his "any team, any time" approach when he was at UMass.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had a comment with information about the players UMass has offered to at the Hun School, but Blogger has apparently vaporized it. If whoever wrote it will try again, I will try a second time to post the comment.

Our opening OOC opponent UConn has  five BCS transfers this spring.

UMass' great run the the NIT continues tomorrow. The A10 took a hit when Temple left. The league needs to reststock and VCU, George Mason and Butler are in discussions to join the league.

Monday December 19, 2011

There is a dearth of football news on the wires this morning, so let's look at recruiting.

In February of 2011, UMass announced 24 recruits. Four of the 24 Derek Beck, John McGrath, Jamal Wilson and Ryan Campbell, ultimately did not appear on the 2011 roster.

Five of the surviving rectuits were defensive players: Iric Harris DB, Randell Jette DB, Quayshun Smith DB, Greg Hilliard LB, and Kyle Morgan DL.

There were fourteen offensive players and a kicker.

Right now ESPN reports we have three commits all on offense.
ESPN gives Jones and Doyle two stars. Mills is NR. I realize the recruiting services ratings can be bogus, but they can give some insight in a macro sense.

ESPN lists the following totals for the MAC East

Ohio (11-4) commits: 11 players, one three star, 6 two star

Temple (10-4) commits: 30 players, 4 three star, 13 two stars, 2 one stars

Kent State (5-7) commits: 16 players, 4 three star, 7 two stars, 1 one star

Bowling Green (5-7) commits: 15 players, 6 three stars, 3 two stars, 1 one star

Miami of Ohio (4-8) commits: 16 players, 3 three stars, 9 two stars.

Buffalo (3-9) commits: 13 players, 2 three stars, 10 two stars, 1 one star

Akron (1-11 and currently no HC) commits: 6 players, 1 three star, 1 two star.

Coach Molnar has some work to do. Eventually, UMass is going to need some defensive players.

Friday--August 12, 2011

As I mentioned yesterday the 2011 roster is up.

Deletions from the Spring roster

Additions to the Minutemen in 2011(including freshmen already on the Spring Roster as they now have offical numbers). According to articles 40% of the team is new from 2010. There are 100 players on the 2011 roster. There were 91 in 2010.
I miss anyone?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watched Chris Koepplin kick off for the Pats last night. He hit one out of bounds, but boomed the remainder of his kicks deep into the endzone.

ProJo.com mentions Koepplin in their writeup of the game. Gostkowski looked good on his field goals, so Koepplin has to hope his film impresses some other team, or the Pats sign him to their practice roster as insurance.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matty V. has an article on Emil Igwenagu's frustrating 2010 season. With UMass' receiving corps depleted this year, hopefully they will throw to Igwenagu and Rob Blanchflower early and often.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things went bad for 2012's OOC opponent Indiana Coach Kevin Wilson during a radio interview.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

USA Today has an article on Delaware's Andrew Pierce including an image of him running at the UMass defense.
