On Monday July 24th the UMass Friends of Football will be having their annual golf outing. The Friends were established by Coach Whipple to support UMass Football. They are composed of former players, coaches and UMass fans.

I believe the Friends were established during the last year of Whipple's era. That would make them four or five years old. In that time they have:

• Helped complete UMass' new 9,000 sq/ft weight training facility---one of the finest in the east.
• Donated the funds for the XOS Technologies Video Training system---UMass was the first A10 team to have this training aid.
• Raised funds towards the new Field Turf at McGuirk Stadium---the first significant renovations in 40 years.
• This year the Friends are mentoring current players.
• Do you see a pattern in all this?
