Wow, that program brings back a lot of memories for me. John Beerworth and Hank "the tank" Sareault were student teachers at my school; and Mike McEvilly was my coach at UMass baseball camp. All were great guys and real role models--as well as great players.

And can't forget the great Dennis Dent!

Thanks

A whole lot of UMass legends on that roster. John Romboli was a hellva punter. Kimball was an All-American.

Was that the game that Dave Douvadjian had 200+ yards? I know it was one of the Holy Cross games...

John Beerworth and Dave Crosdale were pretty good DB's too.

Lots of memories there.

Umass had a great team that year--John Willis, Hank the Tank, John Beerworth,David Crosdale, How about Kevin Cummings First Team All-American tight end from Saratoga Springs NY Coach Mac once said while he was in Cleveland after he left Umass before he went to Sryacuse that Cummings was the Biggest play reciever he ever coached.

Yes, the UMass nation will always wonder what Coach Mac could have done with UMass football if the Administration had not slashed his scholarships.

UMass football earned almost $1 million in TV money back in the 70's.

Then a UMass President we will not name raided the Barber Scholarship Fund to pay for his luxury offices in Boston...

Hey, it's all priorities. A wet bar for the President's office suite or UMass athletics.

Hopefully, administrations like that will never come back.

Do you remember the snap that sailed over Romboli,s,head and he picked the ball up started running, and punted the ball 50yards on the run.

I am a Umass alum but did not play football. I was the long snapper for Romboli the year he was a post graduate before coming to Umass. We are warming up on a very windy day to play Kingswood School. With the wind at his back, he was punting the ball from end zone to end zone. Everyone was stopping to watch. The guy could flat out punt a football.
