More stuff about the Colgate Game
Read this article from The Springfield Republican by Jeff Thomas.
It mentions a number of things I did not discuss about the Richmond and Colgate games.
• The return of L.A. Love. I noticed that he was at the Colgate game and in uniform. I did not see his being in the game. Love is recovering from surgery. He is a force at LB 6-0 245. He is a heavy hitter and an inspirational player. His return can only make UMass’ defense better
• The return of Serge Tikum. He is a UMass captain and he’s fast. Tikum had four tackles against Colgate
• The play of Patrick Powell 6-4 265 pds. Remember that he was the much hyped transfer from Maryland. He played against Richmond and in my view did not have a good game. He was being stood up at the line of scrimmage. Powell generated no pass rush and was not around the ball. The results were different against 'Gate. Maybe the rust was off, because he had six tackles (excellent for a DL) and recovered a fumble. Powell looked like the player UMass fans hoped he would be.
The article mentions that three UMass starters missed the Colgate game due to one game suspension. Note that I had already blogged about that. Scroll down.
One other bit of information was that J.J. Moore broke an all-time UMass record with 13 catches against Colgate. The previous record holders (11 catches) were held by three players Adrian Zullo (Richmond 1999), Jimmie Moore (Hofstra 1998) and Tim Berra (Holy Cross 1973)
The head shot above is Powell. #1 to the right is J.J. Moore.
