A Bleacher Report writer thinks Penn State will offer.

This article from August features Blyden.

This article from July features Blyden.

Besides UMass, Blyden holds an offer from Rutgers.

Tuesday--January 8, 2013

The Big East Blog has another post about UMass and Tulsa being invited to that league, but they're mostly recycling the link I posted yesterday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The UMass website has a status report of the eight former Minutemen football players in the NFL.

Newsday has a post (at the end) touching on the Jets signing Travis Tripucka to a reserve/future contract.

Recruiting 2014--Jonathan Thomas IV

Thomas #1/ Ryan Kilian image
I've blogged about Jonathan Thomas a couple of times before.

The ESPN recruiting Blog says Thomas ran a blistering 4.47 in a recent combine.

Thomas' ESPN recruiting bio here.

Thomas had 92 yards on seven carries and two INT's against Dracut in December.

Monday--January 7, 2013

If you missed it, Doug Merrone left Syracuse. Mark Whipple is mentioned as one of the replacements.

We offered to Isiah Johnson in Syracuse's recruiting list. The Orange's verbals are heavy on JUCO's. They have two OL JUCO's who committed in December. The Minutemen could REALLY use some experienced FBS-level offensive linemen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Boston Herald says Coach Kellogg has no problems with the MAC four game basketball schedule that came with the football conference package.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ESPN says "multiple" sources say UMass and Tulsa are under consideration for the revised Big East.

There would be pains and gains from UMass in the Big East, but it would reunite UMass-UConn and Temple. Those three schools would fare better if they worked together. Temple would realize this. UConn probably wouldn't.

Arkansas State edged Kent State 17-13 in the Go Daddy.com bowl last night.

This article from August features Fullwood.

Fullwood probably would play DB or WR in college.

Kent State plays in the last Bowl game for the MAC conference tonight. Sports Illustrated previews the game.

Prior to the bowls being played the MAC teams were underdogs in every game except for this one. If the Golden Flashes win, the MAC will go 3-4 in post season games.

The Rockford Star says NIU will return to more BCS games.

ESPN says the "Catholic Seven" basketball schools are close to a big TV contract. It looks like they would have plenty of money to offer to A10 schools.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I watched the FCS National Championship game yesterday after I got back from our trip to Amherst to see the UMass-EM game. Just like the 1998 game UMass played in, ESPN stayed with a meaningless hoops game while the National Championship game started.

Saturday--January 5, 2013

Boston College has hired former UMass star DT and coach Ben Albert as defensive line coach.

BC Interruption also has a post on Albert's hiring.

I've blogged a number of times in the past about Albert. It was coach Mike Hodges who hired Albert. He was working in academic services.

NBC Sports features Chuck Martin the man who replaced Coach Molnar as OC for Notre Dame.

On 9/14/13, Music City Bowl winner Vanderbilt visits Gillette. This article looks at next year's Commodores.

If anyone is still interested, the FCS National Championship game is today at 1:00 PM on ESPN2. It's a game we would not have been playing in had we stayed in the CAA.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OT, but Mrs Blog and I are picking up the UMass-Eastern Michigan hoops game today.

Ever wonder what would happen if UMass played John Calipari's Kentucky team? Eastern Michigan played the Wildcats----- and lost 90-38. You could look at the relative score of today's game.

Ever visited CoachCal.com?

Story here.

Friday--January 4, 2013

Coach Molnar comments on NIU's being the first MAC team in a BCS bowl. The Huskies high powered offense did not work well against Florida State. Coach Molnar commented:

“One of the things that wasn’t talked about too much, or not enough in the part of the game that I watched, was just the difficulty of going through a head coaching transition as you go into a bowl game,” Molnar said. “That can’t be understated. I’ve gone through it twice. It’s not easy for the team.”

UMass offensive coordinator Mike Kruczek is leaving the Minutemen and returning to Florida.

Harry Plummer also has the story.

Harry Plumer of MassLive has a story about Shane Huber's decommit and Coach Molnar's response. Note that the Coach Molar indirectly indicates that the rumor is causing some difficulties with recruiting.

Recruiting 2013-- Peter Angeh II

Yesterday I blogged about UMass' latest commit Peter Angeh.

This article features Angeh's verbal to UMass.

Quote from the article:

"He leaves Bullis after one dominating season that included 12 1/2 sacks and 29 1/2 tackles for a loss. Angeh transferred to Bullis from James H. Blake prior to his senior season. He was named to the 2012 All-Gazette second team."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday--January 2, 2012

Matty V. has a story about how misinformation about UMass football affected Shane Huber's decision to decommit to UMass.

Grandstanding by members of the facility senate can certainly harm UMass' effort to upgrade. The press laps that negative stuff up. In this case, it probably cost us a fine LB. As Matty says, opposing coaches will be handing recruits  copies of the Globe's article on the facility senate's action for years.

NJ.com has the story about Huber decommitting.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Florida beat the MAC's standard bearer Northern Illinois 31-10 last night. With the 'Noles loading up to stop NIU running QB Lynch, he had to pass to open thing things up. Instead, he was inaccurate all night going 15-41. Lynch missed open receivers a number of times.

The MAC blog Hustle Belt says the Huskies won by just being there.

The Idaho Statesman says the new playoff rules will bring big money to the non-BCS leagues.

Blayne Taylor is a freshman midfielder for the UMass Lax team. He's the younger brother of Kerry Taylor, who was a big cog in UMass' run to the National Championship under Mark Whipple.

Speaking of Mark Whipple, his son Austin Whipple was offered a walk-on position at Penn State.

Recruiting 2013--Shane Huber

I've blogged about NJ linebacker Shane Huber a number of times in the past.

According to Scout.com via Matty, Huber decommited from UMass yesterday.

Harry Plumer of MassLive also has a post.

That drops UMass down to two three-star verbals.

Sunday---December 30th, 2012

I've blogged about 2013 recruit Shane Huber a number of times before. He played in the "Chesapeake Bowl" Saturday.

A direct link to the bowl site does not work. This article has some background on the game.

An intrepid Blog reader sent us this quote from the Rivals write-up on the game. Special thanks to him!

"Huber played with a nonstop motor throughout the day. If he didn't make the tackle, he was around the ball or involved in the play. Huber was the most physical player on the North team, consistently taking on offensive linemen and blowing up running plays. He excelled at reading and making the stop on inside running plays."

Saturday--December 29th, 2012

UMass hoops plays Northern Illinois today at 4:00 pm EST. I suppose I shouldn't feel this way, but I can't help hoping the Minutemen win by about 35. During UMass' football visit the Huskies kept the petal to the metal the whole game, including the last ten minutes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to the Boston College Blog "BC Interruption" Eagles coach Steve Addazio offered the job of defensive coordinator to former UMass player and coach Joe Cullen.
