Miller, Ihedigbo and Baylark named AP All-Americans

Lost in all the publicity in the drive to the National Championship game was the notice that Alex Miller and James Ihedigbo were named First Team Associated Press All-Americans. Steve Baylark was named 2nd Team All-American.

Eleven A10 football players were named AP All-Americans.

A complete list of all Championship Division AP All-Americans is here .

Also lost in the excitement was the fact that UMass All-Opponent Ricky Santos won the Walter Payton Award for the best Offensive Player in the Championship Division. Steve Baylark finished 10th in the voting (taken before the playoffs).

Football broadcast team wins AP Award

The UMass broadcast team of Bob Behler, Matt Goldstein(his 2004 players bio), Derek Voolner and Mike Marzelli has been honored for the second time as the best collegiate play-by-play team in MA and RI. The UMass press release is here .

Behler & Goldstein won previously in 2003. The Associated Press selected the UMass-Army game as the best broadcast in the category.

UMass fans are fortunate to have an excellent media relations dept at UMass. This blog would be impossible if UMass were run like some I-AA schools (see my blog about UNH star WR David Ball below--- his bio has not been updated since 2004).

Congrats to the UMass football broadcast team!

Monday before Delaware--Nov 8th, 2010

Click on the image and Blogger displays a larger view.

The UMass Daily Collegian said Kyle Havens led UMass over Maine.

They also said defensive stops were a key to the victory.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tyler Holmes was named National Defensive player-of-the-week by College Performance Awards. Kyle Havens was honorable mention QB of the week and Ryan Carter was named kick returner of the week. Whew! UMass writeup here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Delaware picked up one vote in the AP College football poll.

Delaware Online's Kevin Tresolini says the Hens current eight wins puts them in the playoffs. With one of Delaware's wins a victory over a DII school, the blog is not certain of that.

TSN's Craig Haley feels Delaware's K.C. Keeler is one of the favorites for the Eddie Robinson Award (Top Coach in FCS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Somethings-got-to-give dept: UMass leads the CAA in total offense 3,614 yards 27 TD's 401.6 yards/game; Delaware is #1 in total defense 2,231 yards 7 TD's 247.9 yards/game. Latest CAA stats here.

BTW, the Hens Andrew Pierce leads the CAA in rushing with 195-1014 5.2 AVE 12 TD 112.7 yards/game. Stopping Pierce will be the UMass defense's top priority.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keepers College Football rankings have Delaware as #1 and UMass as #14.

He has the Hens by 10.24 over the Minutemen.

The Dunkle Sports Index has the Hens as #2 and UMass as #10.

The College Coaches FCS Poll and TSN's poll won't be out until later today.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heck, any football fan could have told them that.

Beer lubricated the rise of civilization.

Wednesday--June 8th, 2016

UMass-Florida will be available nationally via SEC network.

Football schedules.com has a helmet schedule for all the Independents including UMass.

A Syracuse blog previews UMass' common opponent Boston College.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Naval Academy profiles Chet Gladchuck who won the John L. Toner Award. Gladchuck is a former UMass Assistant Athletic director and holds a Master's Degree from UMass.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GatorSports.com says Mississippi State could face a "trap game" against UMass on September 24th. It's likely not gonna happen, but a win against a SEC team would balm for the battered egos of Minutemen fans.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UMass fans will also be able to see Louisiana Tech vs Arkansas on the SEC network on September 3rd. Athlon predicts the Bulldogs to go 7-5 and finish 2nd in the C-USA West. Louisiana Tech finished 19th in the nation in scoring (35.5 points/game) and 21st in total yardage (482.8 yards/game) in 2016. The Bulldogs have had eight or more wins in four of their last five seasons.

Sunday--November 13, 2011

The Maine game was the first I listened to on the radio feed. Josh Maurer and Matt Goldstein do a fine job with the audio call. You can hear why they keep winning AP awards.

The UMass team appeared to play with fire and determination.  That's all I ask. The defense only gave up 18 points.

The loss was the same old story in 2011. I was mentally writing Ray Pendagast's Gold Helmet Award speech at halftime. However, his glass slipper cracked in the second half. He had two fumbles for touchdowns (we must lead the football universe in that category) and a INT.

In addition, we missed two makeable field goals to dig our last-in-the-CAA average deeper.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matty V. said second half turnovers doomed UMass.

UMass athletic dept write-up here. University of Maine writeup here.

The Boston Herald said Maine recovered to upend UMass.

The Worcester Telegram said UMass could not hold the ball or the lead.

UNH lost to Towson to drop the Wildcats into second place in the CAA.

Football Broadcasts win AP Awards

The UMass Athletic site has an article on the UMass Football broadcast team of Bob Behler and Matt Goldstein winning another Associated press award.

Kudos also to the student team of Marc Bertrand and Mike Walsh of WMUA for their broadcast of the UMass-UNH playoff game.

I received an E-mail stating UMass Senior Woody Carter IV attended the NFL Elite Regional Combine in Baltimore on March 6th. He was invited to the NFL Elite National Combine in Indianapolis, which will be held April 15-16 with all 32 NFL teams attending.

Carter was the 2010 UMass Special Teams Award winner.

Good luck Woody! And thanks to person who notified me.
