 Coach Bell stated he had eight scholarship linebackers in Fall camp. That's the good news. The bad news is nearly all of them are freshmen :)

UMass Football News--August 6th, 2018

The Minutemen ran their first scrimmage of the Fall camp yesterday. The UMass website has an image gallery from the scrimmage.

Not a lot of football news on the intertubes this morning. Mass Live has not done a UMass story in more than a month.

Lets look at the redshirt freshmen for 2018. If I counted right, UMass will have 18 RSFR available this year.

In the already crowded WR corps we have:

Special thanks to blog reader "Nick" for the heads up on a link to Draft Countdown's Scott Wright discussing Jean Sifrin's changes in the NFL draft. The mention of Sifrin is about minute 52 in this podcast.

A lot of high-priced NFL Draft commentators are going to be wrong about Sifrin, because they'll only look at his tape and stats. They won't realize Sifrin had essentially no summer camp before he started playing.

With more reps at his position and more coaching, his blocking and pass catching have big upsides. If he goes 5th round or below, he'll be a steal for some NFL team.

Rivals.com reports UMass has offered to Zack Camp, a 5-11 170 pd athlete/DB from Yulee, FL.

Besides UMass, Camp holds offers from Troy and Western Kentucky. Interested are Georgia Tech and FCS schools Florida A&M, Georgia Southern and Jacksonville.
