Whew! That was too close!

As expected, the UMass-Maine game had a playoff atmosphere. The Black Bears had to win and it showed. The game has some NFL style hitting.

Maine had some long possessions which limited the UMass offense.

Things really got interesting in the final few minutes of the game. The UMass coaching staff had a major brain cramp by going for a fourth and one at midfield. The UMass defense had been holding the UMaine offense all day. We should have let the best punter in the nation (Koegel) bury Maine deep in their own territory.

Once the Black Bears stopped UMass they scored (of course). Here the Maine coaches returned the bad-call favor by going for a two point conversion, which everybody in the stadium knew was coming. Since Maine had all the momentum, I would have kicked the extra point and won the game in overtime.

Maine then botched the play, which actually went in their favor because UMass had stopped the two-point try. Since it was illegal procedure, Maine then got another conversion try. After the penalty they then went for the extra point.

The kicker promptly shanked the kick left....

So we won. Maybe the football gods felt we were deserving after all the team's hard work.

I've got images, but I'll post them late tomorrow .

Also saw the UMass-Dartmouth BB game, so we're pretty tired.
