UMass Football News--August 7th, 2022

Well, I guess it's time to get back in Football season mode with posts every day. As the mainstream media circles the drain, more and more content is paywalled. Sites I previously linked a lot like NJ.com and Penn Live are paywalled.

The Springfield Republican's UMass news as well as the Berkshire Eagle's UMass news are now paywalled. That bodes ill for the long term future for the blog.

The Raleigh New and Observer has a interesting post about the 1984 Supreme Court decision that changed college football forever. Back in the 1970's UMass football was several times on ABC's game of the week in the Northeast. The court decision insured all the TV money went to the big schools. That drove the split into the Power Five and Group-of-Five teams and is now driving the super conference moves.
