UMass Football News--August 11th, 2022

Mike Traini of "Fight Massachusetts" previews the 2022 UMass quarterbacks.

The struggles of the Minutemen defense overshadowed the grim fact on how ineffective the UMass offense was. UMass only had 14 plays of 20-or-plus yards during the 2021 season. UMass was #128 in team passing efficiency.  The Minutemen were #126 in scoring with 16.3 points/game. Even Don Brown's killer defense will not win games with that level of offense.

That pretty much comes down to quarterback play. Basically, nobody moved the offense. You know me, I want all UMass players to be all-Americans, but  quarterback was a weak position. We really, really, need better production out the the QB room this year. The new staff has been noncommittal on who's in the lead. That may be a bad sign. I would think Brady Olsen will get the chance to open at Tulane. If the offense struggles, then Zamir Wise or Gino Campiotti will finish the season.
