Tuesday--May 3, 2011

Matty V. has details of the UMass contract with Gillette. Ticket prices look to be pretty reasonable. Mr. Blog and I have been paying about $40/seat on our trips to Michigan, Kansas State etc------and those were the nose bleed seats.

This story about Michigan safety Jonas Mouton has an image of him tackling Anthony Nelson.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This article says Villanova may not have any where near the necessary  votes to join the Big East. The story also discusses possible future Big East configurations if some of the basketball schools are ejected. As mentioned from other sources, Rutgers is interested in the Big Ten.

The Scarlet Knights are interested in the Big Ten because the Big East does not have big revenues.

The often mentioned financial bath UConn took at their BCS bowl was because Oklahoma was reimbursed by the Big Twelve for their unsold tickets. The Big East did not do the same for UConn.

The USL Destroyers have picked former Georgia Southern foe Adrian Peterson in the third round of the USL draft.

Peterson still holds UMass opponent records with his 333 yards rushing and 5 TD's in the 1999 playoff game at Georgia Southern.

Marcel Shipp is still on the roster of the Las Vegas Locomotives.

As we all knew he would. Liam Coen joins the Brown University as quarterbacks coach.

Matty Vautour has a blog post here. I can't find the relevant blog post, but I believe Matty had a over-and-under bet that Liam would return to UMass as HC in about 10 years...

Tuesday News--March 2nd, 2010

If you haven't seen the video of Vladimir Ducasse working out for the Combine on the main UMass football page, you should. Remember when watching how huge Ducasse is. I think it is a remarkable display of agility for a man of that size.

The Boston Herald says Vlad tops local NFL prospects.

Ducasse's NFL Combine page here. Note that he did 29 reps in the bench press test.

Article about Tom Cullen

The Medford Daily News has an article about former UMass coach Tom Cullen.

He coached DL for UMass in 1991.

He also coached a Amherst High School and Amherst College.

UPDATE: Take time to read the comments on this post. Great UMass football story by Drew Comeau, who played some serious LB for the Minutemen in the late 80's. I have the UMass press guide and two game programs from 1989, but no image of Drew to scan. The 1989 Press Guide was the first UMass Guide to go to the large format, but it was still pretty minimal. Prior to '89 the UMass Press Guides were the size of a standard size letter envelope with no pictures and about 50 pages...

Jason Cherry still getting a kick out of football

Former UMass kicker Jason Cherry is still playing football. He is currently trying out for the Arizona Rattlers.

There is an article here about his current status.

Cherry was a big part of UMass' 1998 National Championship. He scored 13 points (2 field goals and seven extra points) against Georgia Southern.

The image to the right is a scan from the 1999 UMass Press Guide.

Good luck Jason!
