Sunday News -- February 21st, 2010

The University of New Hampshire is considering a recommendation that athletics be considered a core function of the University. This is undoubtedly the de facto position of the top public universities.

I watched the UMass Hockey team lose to Merrimac on NESN last night. As I have said several times, I totally lack the hockey gene----unusual for a native New Englander----so I don'tknow enough about the game to comment. For my hockey analysis I read the excellent UMass "Fear the Triangle" blog.

Great Game Hoops!

I think this is the first ever blog post on a UMass team other than football, but I can't ignore a great game like I just witnessed.

I had basketball season tickets for years when I lived in the valley and still do about five weekend games a year.

But the Syracuse game felt like the days of "Refuse to Lose!"

The story should be up shortly on the UMass Basketball page.

Great game guys!

New UMass All-Sports Blog opens

Well, we certainly live in the information age. For years UMass sports information was really tough to come by. Now with the excellent UMass Athletic Dept. site, it's a lot easier to keep in touch with UMass Sports.

My UMass Football Blog is two years old and counting.

Now there is a new UMass All-Sports Blog called "Between Mullins and McGuirk". The owner is Bob McGovern.

It appears a web-only sports site "Most Valuable Network".

Good luck Bob! I'm looking forward to your take on UMass Sports.
