Let's look at 2015's redshirt freshmen. With a year of college-level weight training and working with the staff, some should contribute this year. The redshirts are also the bulk of Whipple's first recruiting class.
QB's
Ross Comis 6-2 205
Andrew Verboys 5-11 200
Austin Whipple was the only reserve QB in 2014 that could play without breaking his redshirt. He didn't look like the future of UMass quarterbacking in his two starts last year. Neither Verboys or Comis looked that impressive in April's Spring Game. Hustle Belt said "Pray for Frohnapfel's health". Still, Whipple pater, will have more options than he did last year.
Defensive backs
Charan Singh 6-2 192
Jerell Addo 6-2 195
Last year depth was a big problem in the defensive backfield. The Minutemen also add JUCO Jordan Hamilton and transfer Kelton Brackett.
RB
Jordan Fiske 6-3 243
Fiske's size and the fact he played a lot of TE in HS probably means he will be a FB in Whipple's system. Whipple likes FB's who can catch the ball out of the backfield.
TE
Jon Lucier 6-6 220
With Jean Sifrin gone, the Minutemen will be looking for an impact TE.
WR's
Alfred Adarkwah 6-4 195
T.J. Kelley 6-6 215
Both Adarkwah and Kelly have FBS size.
LB's
Joel Devariste 6-1 215
Christian Appia 5-11 225
Devariste is a walk-on. Hudl highlights for Devariste. Hudl has highlights for Appia.
OL
Seamus Murray 6-2 230
Dimitri Angelas 6-5 291
Anthony Fernandez 6-6 302
Dan Dinicola 6-6 290
UMass is fairly deep in offensive linemen. This group probably will not see much action in 2015
DL
Joe Previte 6-3 285
Basit Dennis 6-2 280
Jake Largay 6-6 310
Chris Carter 6-4 276
Defensive line has been the unit hat has been most problematical since our move to FBS. Largay went from 280 last year to 310 this spring. With Dan Maynes and Leo Krizanovic gone, this group could supply a number of slots in the two-deep.
K
Theo Young 5-8 165
Last year's train wreck in kicking probably means the starters are wide open going into summer camp.
