As we've talked about a number of times, most pundits talk about Whipple's vertical passing game, but his offense usually allows big rushing numbers too. Last year, UMass never really got on track. The Minutemen averaged 109.3 yards/game rushing. Opponents averaged 191.8.
Part of the problem was only Shadrach Abrokwah was able to stay healthy. Jamal Wilson averaged 4.4 yards a carry and that was during the Power Five section of our schedule. Lorenzo Woodley and J. T. Blyden showed flashes, but were not consistent. Probably the statistic that shows the lack of flash in the UMass running game was longest carry:
- Abrokwah 24 yards
- Woodley 43 yards
- Blyden 18 yards
- Wilson 11 yards
