Matty Vautour reports UMass has fired defensive coordinator Tom Masella.

In five years in FBS, UMass has yet to win a shootout. The wins have been grind-it-out defensive struggles. The Minutemen needs more talent and bodies on defense for the new defensive coordinator to work with. Hopefully, we'll get a coach with some national recruiting connections to make that happen.
