Sunday--August 7th, 2016

UPDATE: Mike Traini has a post on yesterday's event and calls it a success.

UMass hosted its first Clambake recruiting event yesterday. So far, no verbals from the event, which is not to say there won't be some.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This article by the Boston Herald mentions UMass long snapper Peter Comaroto.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tennessean analyses Tajae Sharpe's success in the Titans rookie camp. The article mentions Mark Whipple's coaching. The offense UMass runs is the Pro-set. In addition, the Minutemen use pro style offensive nomenclature for the offensive plays. A player from UMass does not have to cope with learning a new terminology in rookie camp.

Pro Football talk reports that Tom Cable thinks spread offenses are a "huge disservice" to college players wanting to play in the pros.

Recruiting 2017 -- Tre Person II

Back on July 2nd, 2016 I blogged about Tre Person, a 6-0 165 pound CB from Westlake HS in GA.

Mike Traini updates Person's recruiting.

Besides UMass, Person has offers from Buffalo, Troy, Tulane, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Buffalo and some FCS schools.

Person is interested in Business, which should shorten his list to UMass' nationally ranked Isenberg School of Business and Tulane.

UMass announces a TV package with American Sports Network.

This is very good news for UMass football. If I remember right, the Minutemen only appeared on "MACtion" once during the 2015 schedule. This package should give UMass some national exposure. There's probably not much money involved, but it's a lot more coverage than the MAC provided. ASN's Wikipedia page.

Hudl.com has video.

Kansas State offers. Mentions UMass.

This article mentions UMass coach Charles Walker recruiting Clemons.

Partial quote from a July 26th article on Clemons by Scott Eklund on Scout.com.

"I have offers right now from Middle Tennessee State and UCF," Clemons told JCFootball.com recently. "I have a lot of schools talking to me. The main ones are Utah State, Kansas State, SMU, Tulsa, UAB, Alabama, Missouri, Massachusetts and Texas Tech, but there are a lot of other ones too."

Clemons redshirted his first year at Cisco, something that has allowed him to focus on getting better as both a player and a student.

"I'm that guy who can use his size advantage well and I have good technique," Clemons said. "A big thing for me has been working on some new pass-rush moves, making sure I bend that edge well so I can get to the quarterback and also dropping into coverage."

Clemons holds offers from Utah State, Kansas State, Middle Tennessee State and UCF.

Recruiting 2017--Sal Cannella II

Back on June 14th, 2016 I blogged about Sal Cannella, 6-6 230 pound TE/WR from Scottsdale community college.

Mike Traini updates Cannella's recruiting. Cannella will play at least one semester at Scottsdale, which will shift his recruiting to 2017.

Currently holds offers from UMass and Nevada.

Wednesday--August 3rd, 2016

UMass adds Adam Breneman, a 6-4 245 TE transfer from Penn State. Penn Live has the story.

The York Dispatch also covers Breneman's move.

Onward State has a post on Breneman's transfer.

This article covers his shift from football to politics.

Mike Traini has a post on Breneman's move to UMass. The Minutemen need all the recruiting streams they can get. I've mentioned a number of times the TE position was a definite weak point in the UMass offense last year. Whipple's Pro-set offense moves better with a pass-catching TE.

The Minutemen had their most talented TE recruiting class ever in 2016 in Cody Banks, Taylor Edwards and Alvin Peah. I still expect one or more of those three not to redshirt. Any production Breneman contributes will be a plus and he should be a big help mentoring the freshmen.
