Ben Albert has some video of
his interception against Holy Cross. I think this is from the UMass win at Holy Cross on September 19th, 1992. Albert's INT won the game for the Minutemen. Mrs Blog and I were there right at the corner of the endzone about three rows up where Albert runs the INT.
If you are too young to remember, the Crusaders were one of FCS's most powerful teams back in the 80's. They had a huge winning streak in the Colonial conference. That made for some bad feelings as many people felt Holy Cross was running it up. In 1987 the Crusaders were beating UMass 47-10 and still had Heisman Trophy candidate
Gordy Lockbaum in the game in the late fourth quarter (I was at that game too). He caught a pass to make it 54-10 Holy Cross. In addition, the Crusaders did not participate in the playoffs, which meant they never played some of the southern FCS power teams such as Georgia Southern. The southern teams felt Holy Cross was ducking them.
In the early 90's the infamous Fr. Brooks would absolutely blow up Holy Cross athletics and the Crusaders would never again be a FCS power.
