anyone have an observations to share re: spring practice highlights, surprises, or other??
At first glance '08 looks thin at running back in particular. Also interested to how Hawkins stacks up at QB. At least for now he looks like the next QB. Wonder if they will switch to the spread after Coen graduates??
How is Jon Hernendez doing in spring practice?
He might be a little small to be an every down back at this level but he has nasty moves and is lightening fast. Maybe in a year or two could thrive in spread offense?
I've said this before, but we've been incredibly lucky without sustaining injuries at TB. I think this team needs two distinct types who can provide variety to the schemes and who can both block, release, and catch the ball. In my eyes, three well prepared backs would be desirable. Besides this, I love how this team is looking so far. With the exception of some inexperience, granted at key positions, the team has reloaded and prepared well. The incoming frosh seem like real finds. Coaching staff (and the players) deserve all credit. Chemistry is the only indeterminant.
Change of subject but I like the fact that for some of the home games they moved kick off back a few hours due to the new lights at the stadium. As a former player I was always a little dissapointed with the attendence at the games. No doubt the fact that most of the student body was still in bed sleeping off the hangover from the night before was the reason. I'm willing to bet we see a huge increase in attendence this year. Go Mass!
How do you think former DB, DeMarcus Robertson will do at Troy University for the next 2 years! For a little info he played in 12 games as a true fr. and in high school he was originally committed to Rutgers, which showas he can play 1-A ball! Any Thoughts?
Change of game time is an excellent strategy to increase student turnout. Are you kidding me? Amherst in the fall at dusk on a beautiful crisp evening? It doesn't get better than this. (Think of the parties after!) Too bad about Roberson, what with the loss of Meggett and Ridenhaeur. We could have used him.
I was checking BC's roster. Virtually all freshman at TB. Loss of a starting DE; untested at QB... I don't know how they will stack up to last year's team. I kinda wish UMass played them this season...
From what I have seen the team looks good on both O and D with the ones. The talent seems to drop off rapidly after that. Here's hoping they go injury free for the year. If they do they can do real well in the CAA and maybe go deep into the FCS championship tournament.
I'm anxious to see how both young QB's look in the spring game where they should see ample playing time under game like conditions. Both were redshirted last year, so they are battling one another for #3 on depth chart & a spot on the travel team.
Meggett is ON the 2008 spring roster so we'll have all 4 DB starters back.

6 days until the Spring Game. We have a crowd going. I hope everyone who has shown an interest in the team by writing on Frank's blog will make an effort to be there also. It should be interesting to see this O-line you all have been discussing and what the RB's and WR's can do this year.
The o line is hugh, as a group they seem to have plenty of strength, and appear very quick off the ball. Their biggest weakness is their lack of experience on the field and in playing together as a group. Once they learn their assignments and get a few games under their belt they should be a force to recogn with in the conference.
Nevertheless, I fully expect the D to eat them alive in the Spring Game. I'm hoping at the end of Two-A-Days in Aug the tables will be turned. Or, at least, the O to be able to hold their own.
Also, I want to see more of Eason on D as he has been impressive in the play during Spring Ball. Talk about strong and quick he's both.

Where has Brown been using him? I hope they are using him at DE. It would be a shame to stick him in the middle of the line.
Who have you seen playing MLB? Our biggest concern on defense is at MLB and who is gong to call the defensive alignments. I would like to see someone with experience calling the defensive signals.
The two practices I saw at the start of spring practice Eason was I thought at DT. I didn't pay close attention to the D because I went to see Coen and how his Oline protection would be. If the Oline is good Coen will do very good this year and he will go pro.
